SLIDELL — The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office was made aware of a letter sent to the Clerk of Court’s office, apparently by a prisoner in a state Department of Corrections facility.
In the letter, the prisoner made a bomb threat, allegedly to be carried out, against the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center facility.
This same prisoner has made similar threats against other facilities and individuals in the past. None of those threats were ultimately acted upon.
Sheriff’s office detectives are familiar with the individual involved, and are fully investigating the incident despite his past record of unsubstantiated threats.
Court security personnel are also involved, conducting a comprehensive sweep of the facility.
All public agencies operating within the Justice Center have been notified. At this time, it is not anticipated that the public’s ability to access the Justice Center will be impacted by this incident; however, if additional precautions are to be put in place the Sheriff’s office will notify the public as soon as possible.
