SLIDELL – A robbery attempt at a local restaurant on Friday night led to the suspect being shot and injured before he was charged with the crime, Slidell Police Public Information Officer Chad Olivier reported.
Police were dispatched to Mr. Joe’s Chinese Restaurant at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Rue Rochelle Drive at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Friday, alerted about an armed robbery in progress.
As officers approached the scene the suspect fired on officers, who returned the fire and injured the man later identified as 26-year-old Michael Donato of Slidell.
He was taken to a local hospital and reported in stable condition.
Olivier said that Donato has been charged with armed robbery and attempted first degree murder of a police officer.
The investigation is being handled by Slidell Police, Louisiana State Police and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
