SLIDELL — St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives have recovered over $16,000 worth of property, and stopped a one-man burglary spree that has plagued the Slidell area since late November of 2016, according to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Daniel Seuzeneau.
Steven Barrios, 28 years old, is accused of burglarizing over 20 storage units and three surrounding businesses on Highway 190E in Slidell. Through an extensive investigation, detectives identified Barrios in late December.
“For over a month Barrios ravaged multiple businesses and storage units, several different times, stealing over $25,000 worth of property and causing thousands of dollars in property damage,” Seuzeneau said. “Barrios was stealing four-wheelers, power tools, vehicle parts, engines, and electronics. He would then trade the stolen items for cash.”
Detectives obtained arrest warrants for the arrest of Barrios and located him last week at his grandmother’s house on Moonraker Drive in Slidell. Detectives also executed search warrants where they recovered over $16,000 worth of stolen property.
Barrios was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for 26 counts of simple burglary, six counts of theft over $750 (felony), two counts of theft under $750 (misdemeanor), four counts of theft of a motor vehicle, five counts of criminal trespass, four counts of criminal damage over $500 (felony), and five counts of criminal damage (misdemeanor).
The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are expected.
