Tigers defeated by Mandeville, St. Paul’s

SLIDELL – The Slidell Tigers fell on hard times last week losing two District 6-5A games at the hands of Mandeville and St. Paul’s.

In the Mandeville game, Slidell could only manage one run in the game that coming in the third inning while the Skippers scored three in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Stuart Montgomery took the loss going six innings giving up four runs on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

Joseph Bulovas notched the win going the distance giving up one run on five hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Getting those five hits for the Tigers were Luke Toups, Tyler McManus (double), Ethan Gillespie, Grant Canter and Justin Deslatte.

Bulovas had two hits and two RBI’s while Nathan Chilton and Wil Crawford both had hits and RBI’s.

Slidell left five men on base and Mandeville stranded two.

Against St. Paul’s, it took extra innings for the Wolves to take the win over the Panthers.

A Payton McNeil single in the bottom of the ninth drove in Will Heurtin to score the winning run in a 7-6, nine-inning victory.

Heurtin s led off the game with a single and went on to score on another single by William Duncan’s to take a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers roared back with three runs of their own in the second. The Tigers loaded the bases with three singles.

Justin Deslatte scored from third on a Wolves error and Stuart Montgomery’s sacrifice fly scored a run. Tyler McManus ended the scoring with an RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.

St. Paul’s got three runs of their own in the bottom of the third highlighted by a Beau Neelis two-run single that helped the Wolves retake the lead at 4-3.

The Tigers got a run back in the fifth on a Parker Autry RBI hit to tie it at 4-4.

In their half of the fifth inning, Neelis got his second two-run single of the game to regain the lead at 6-4.

The Tiger’s tied it up 6-6 again in the sixth and held on until the ninth when Heurtin came in to score the winner.

Beau Neelis notched the win for St. Paul’s going two innings giving up no runs on no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Tyler McManus was tagged with the loss going three and a third inning giving up one run on two hits, one walk and six strikeouts.

St. Paul’s – Payton McNeil (2-3, 2 RBI); William Heurtin (2-5); Caleb Lupo (1-5); Jacob Scherer (1-3); William Duncan (2-4, RBI); Grant Grosch (1-3); Beau Neelis (2-4, 4 RBI); Robby Darrah (1-4); Nick Vitale (1-1)

St. Paul’s improves to 17-8 overall and 11-1 in the district race while Slidell falls to 13-16, 4-8.

“I was proud of the way we came out and played,” said Slidell skipper Clay Harris.

“We haven’t played very good baseball lately so I’m pleased with the effort.”
