“Volunteer.”
The word has a lot of meaning if you consider what “volunteering” can lead to when an individual decides to find a way to do for others.
There are many reasons to enjoy living in Slidell, and all of St. Tammany Parish. We know the usual answers about schools, low crime, and our peaceful community.
But just as important on the North Shore is the community spirit to help others.
In today’s edition of The Slidell Independent we are publishing a special section we have put together several times since this paper began 13 years ago. “Slidell’s Community Volunteers” is loaded in this publication with dozens of local civic and non-profit groups that have one main purpose—to help others.
The amazing thing to see is how many different groups we have here. And if you put a publication together for west St. Tammany, you would certainly see just as many on the west side.
What it all means is that we live in a community where people are very willing to help others.
There are groups for general community service, many organizations that focus on a key area such as Alzheimer’s, the elderly, special needs, and more. It is truly amazing to read this section and see how many different organizations we have in Slidell.
Most every one of the groups you will read about today is coming out of the tough time we have all experienced known as COVID. Virtually all groups put their work on the shelf for two years, and now are re-organizing and essentially starting from scratch again. That’s why we wanted to allow them to publicize who they are and what they do.
Most of these groups are made up of people who have a passion for their specific issues. And it is clear they are ready to get to work again to help others in Slidell, and the parish.
If you are interested to find a way to help others, these groups will offer you more options than you can dream of. And if you aren’t the kind of person to join a group, but still want to help, they would be more than appreciative for financial donations to get them going again, after most had to cancel all fundraising efforts for the last two years.
We hope you find somewhere to help, in whatever way that is, but we also want to say “thank you” to our Slidell Community Volunteers for the way you make living on the North Shore the best place ever.
