It was a sad day last week when Great Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96.
The loss was not just for those she directly served, but for our entire world since Queen Elizabeth was a monarch who may have changed in some ways over the years, but never allowed the changing world to sway her beliefs about what was really important.
From the early speeches she gave over radio after she assumed the responsibilities of the ruling monarch on February 6, 1952, until her passing on September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth spent her lifetime bringing people together, standing for peace among all nations, and continuously supporting the morals, the values and the faith of a world that could use more of that today.
Considered the most widely traveled world leader ever—she traveled to 117 different countries during her reign—she was known for undertaking the most grueling international trips, all because she was so widely respected and admired that even she understood the power she could bring for peace throughout the world.
Queen Elizabeth said during her first speech ever that she would devote her life to serving the people of her country, “with loyalty, respect and love,” something the longtime British leader was always known for.
Even when King Charles III spoke the day after her death, he reiterated his promise to do the same and continue the ideals that the queen stood for.
In today’s changing world we need more leaders to stand up for those values. Regardless how many years have passed, or how things might seem to change, the values of our country and our God are the foundation principles that carried America to greatness and can keep us there even with such uncertainty and division that has crept into our society.
We need more leaders like Queen Elizabeth who showed courage, integrity, and dignity from the beginning of her reign until the end. And even though it’s hard to see many like that on the horizon, there can still be hope for us in this country and beyond if our leaders would display some of the principles that the leader of Britain did for so many years.
