Christmas season in our community has been great one

It’s hard to imagine a more festive, fun time for the Christmas season than we have seen in Slidell for the past month.
There hasn’t been a week go by since November that we haven’t had a wide selection of holiday events to attend, and thankfully for our city, they are all family friendly!
Griffith Park has been a busy place every night since “Christmas Under the Stars” began where children and family can be seen laughing, hiding behind the Christmas trees and spending time in the playhouses, or having a picture taken with Santa.
Mayor Greg Cromer’s Christmas golf cart parade was the biggest hit ever with thousands lining the street to see approximately 80 golf carts decorated for the holidays with lots of throws and Christmas music playing.
Bayou Christmas in Heritage Park, yet another free event, opens this weekend and finishes on December 22 and 23 with a fantastic display of lights and holiday fun.
Bayou Jam in Heritage Park—free once again thanks to the city and many local sponsors—was packed with thousands to hear great music with lots of snacks.
Another free Christmas concert will be held this Thursday night in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium when the Northshore Community Orchestra performs at 7 p.m. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis so don’t get there late.
And it doesn’t end this week as there is another free holiday concert for veterans this Thursday night, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium.
On top of all these fun events are dozens of upbeat, positive, cheerful Christmas plays and performances that so many of our churches put on, like the super fun event we attended at Generations Church in Slidell.
It’s one thing to see a community host a lot of holiday season events, but to have so many free opportunities for our citizens is really incredible.
It happens because of the many different organizations that volunteer their time to put it all together, as well as local businesses that support the funding, food or activities needed to pull it all together.
Yes, it’s been a great Christmas season so far in Slidell and proves again what a wonderful community we have that is always looking for the next opportunity to do something special for others.
Thanks Slidell and have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
