MARY ELIZABETH LOGGINS LEWIS

Mary Elizabeth Loggins Lewis, of Pearl River, Louisiana, passed away on February 1, 2023 at the age of 73. She was born in Angleton, Texas on March 6, 1949.
Mary leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her husband of 53 years, John A. Lewis; a daughter, Kristen L. Lewis; one granddaughter, Ainsley E. Lewis; three siblings, James Loggins, John Loggins, and Lynne Loggins; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery W. Lewis; her parents, William Loggins and Sylvia Loggins; and two siblings, June Malone and William Loggins.
Mary graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She touched the lives of many students in her career as a teacher at Salmen High School. After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to Disney World, volunteering at St. Margaret Mary School and Church, and spending time with family, especially Ainsley, the light of her life, and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relative and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, February 6, 2023 starting at 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Slidell. Mary will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery in a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church’s Youth Ministry are appreciated. ALINE ‘LINE’ SHORT

Aline “Line’ Short, age 88, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Trinity Trace Community Care Center in Covington, MS.
A native of Slidell, she was a member of Mt. Olive Methodist Church and a member of the Senior Ministry. She had worked as a schoolteacher at Salmen High School.
She was the mother of Sammie Short Jr. of Dallas, GA; Debbie (Chuck) Morrell, Monique Short and Lakita (Demone) Jackson of Slidell; Gwen Cousin of Dallas, GA.; Monica Short of South Carolina; and the late Jackie Short.
She was the wife of the late Sammie Short Sr.; daughter of the late Annette and Willie Hartley Sr.; and preceded in death by five siblings, and grandson Rodney Smith.
Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was the last of seven children in her family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 9 a.m. with visitation following at Mt. Olive Methodist Church, 2457 Second St., Slidell.
Burial will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.

Jeffrey Christopher Lawson, age 18, of Picayune, MS, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
A native of Slidell, he was in his senior year of high school and aspired to be a video game developer and programmer, as well as a pediatric oncology nurse.
He enjoyed gaming, a great debate, movies, and comic books.

Ronald D. Brunell, Sr., age 69, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, he served in the U.S. Army and retired after many years with the U.S. Postal Service as a building maintenance engineer.
He excelled at golf and was a member of several clubs. He also enjoyed reading, cars, sports and playing cards.

Ronald “Ron” Paul Polit, age 90, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2023.
A native and longtime resident of New Orleans, he was a member of the New Orleans Opera Chorus and worked at Western Electric as a phone repairman, before working for New Orleans Public Service.
He served in the U.S. Army and Navy for a total of eight years, returning to work at Entergy for a 40 year career.
He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Slidell and became a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Gloria Nenita Ricarte Taylor, age 79, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023.
A native of Ormoc City, Leyte, Philippines, she was a member of the VFW Post #5735 Auxiliary, Chicks and Chaps and Young at Heart Bowling leagues, and was a cosmetologist with a Slidell shop called Shear Magic.

Ronald Charles LeBlanc, age 78, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, he earned a degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and had a sales career with Procter & Gamble, Nestle and Purina.
He found his true passion as a deacon for the New Orleans Archdiocese, serving at St. Luke in Slidell for 16 years. He also volunteered at Southeast Mental Hospital and was a chaplain at Ochsner North Shore.
