The name St. Tammany Corporation doesn’t mean a lot to most residents in the parish, and the majority probably don’t know what the organization is really about, unless you are involved in the business community.
St. Tammany Corporation is the lead economic development organization for St. Tammany Parish and actually does a tremendous amount for businesses, which translates to good things for every one of the more than 260,000 parish residents.
When the business community is healthy it means good jobs, adequate tax revenue, and a lot of factors that are critical to creating this wonderful parish we all know on the North Shore.
While S.T. Corp has always been involved in business retention, attracting new businesses, site selection, work force development and more, the organization has taken particular steps in the past year or more to do something not seen as publicly as they are now doing.
On Monday night in Slidell a second session of Empowering Northshore Entrepreneurs will be held. It is a free event for business owners and entrepreneurs to gain invaluable knowledge, experience and connections with experts in the business world.
If the event is not completely filled up, then many businessmen and women will be missing the boat since you cannot find this kind of support for your business without spending a lot of money.
Then, S.T. Corp has teamed with The Idea Village to create something called IDEAinstitute Northshore, which is a 10-week series of sessions that are again aimed at entrepreneurs and business startup organizations.
While there is a $285 fee for this program, it is once again an incredible opportunity for young business owners or managers to learn from the best minds in the business world.
There will be virtual sessions, as well as face-to-face meetings with experienced business leaders. The opportunity to connect with knowledgeable individuals with past business success is one thing that will be offered throughout the 10-weeks, and there will be possible assistance with funding that can help someone turn an idea into a scalable business that could have untold success.
St. Tammany Corporation hasn’t exactly been the best kept secret in the parish, but if you are not involved in the business world you probably don’t know much about what they do.
But if you are connected to business in this parish, you should recognize that the latest offerings from this organization provide ample evidence that the work headed by the group, directed by CEO Chris Masingill, is bringing great value to many young businesses in St. Tammany.
And as business grows and succeeds here, so will those of us who call St. Tammany home.
