JACK WAYNE GILLIKIN SR.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Jack Wayne Gillikin, Sr., passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the age of 69.
He was born on November 19, 1953 in Tampa, FL, the son of the late Norman Decatur Gillikin and Anna Rodriguez Mills.
He lived in New Orleans and was a long-time resident of Slidell, LA. Jackie, as so many knew him, was a pillar of strength and a source of kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.
Jack was a devoted husband to his bride of 52 years, Patricia Gillikin, a loving father to his only son, Jack Wayne Gillikin, Jr., and a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Jack Wayne Gillikin, III and Kendall Elaine Gillikin.
He was a beloved brother of Anita (Buddy) Peter, Jeannie (Butch) Deyo, Darlene Taylor, Sherry (Bill) Thibodeaux, Norman Brine (Tracie) Gillikin, Chad (Judy) Gillikin, Ty (Tracy) Gillikin, and Mary Gillikin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruth Stefanakis, and his brothers, David Gillikin, Sr., Jerry Taylor, and Norman D. Gillikin, Jr. His memory will forever be held dear by a host of beloved nieces and nephews and many friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and wisdom.
Loved ones and friends are invited to pay their respects at a Celebration of Life on July 29, 2023, from 1-4 p.m. at 3288 Rama Street, Slidell, LA.

MARTIN BRUNO JR.

Martin Bruno, Jr., of Slidell, Louisiana, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the age of 78. Martin, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, was born on July 14, 1944 to Martin Bruno, Sr. and Lucy Cecilia Lentz Bruno. He was the beloved husband and lifelong sweetheart of Eileen Jeanfreau Bruno for 55 years and the devoted father of four children, Kimberly Eidson (Joe), Martin Bruno, III (Tracie), Jennifer Johnsen (Eric), and Christopher Bruno (Mary). He is also survived by one sister, Lucy Tetlow, nephew, John Tetlow (Renee), niece, Lisa Tetlow, twelve grandchildren, whom he adored and spoiled at every opportunity, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his goddaughter Laurie Tetlow, and one grandchild, Elise Bruno.
Martin was a devout Catholic that lived his life for his faith, family, and community. An Eagle Scout and Air Force veteran, his favorite activities included traveling the world with his loved ones, spending quality time with family and friends, and participating in activities with his local church, the pro-life movement, and various civic causes.
Martin received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Southeastern Louisiana University and spent most of his career serving as Planning Director for Terrebonne Parish and the City of Slidell. As a leader in his profession, he was ultimately bestowed the honor of Fellow for the American Institute of Certified Planners. He extended his civic involvement with numerous leadership positions, such as the President of the American Planning Association – Louisiana Chapter, Chairman of the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce, President of the St. Tammany Economic Development District, Treasurer of The Harbor Center Board of Directors, and member of the United Way Leadership Council.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Funeral Mass will begin at 2 p.m. in the chapel and the interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.

WILSON NAVARRE

Wilson Navarre, age 46, went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2023.
Services were held at Sacred Heart Church in Lacombe. Burial at Osey Ordyne Cemetery, Fish Hatchery Road, Lacombe, LA., under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home. May the Lord strengthen and comfort the family during their time of bereavement.

 

 

STEPHEN ARCHIE RIST

Steve Rist passed away in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on July 5, 2023, at the age of 67. He was born in Slidell, Louisiana on August 20, 1955. After leaving high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country for four years with the rank of corporal. He then worked for Martin Marietta in New Orleans.
Most recently, Steve lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he retired from working as a supervisor for a lawn service. He came back to visit family in Slidell several times but always returned to Myrtle Beach. As a kid, Steve played baseball. He was the baby of the family and had older sisters and a brother to keep him busy. One of his favorite hobbies was playing pool and he participated in many tournaments.
Steve is survived by his two daughters Jennifer Rist and Jessica Rist and four grandsons. He is also survived by his sisters Diane Graves (Earl) and Sandy Moran (Jimmy), sister-in-law Rosemary Rist and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard K. Rist and Doretha Rist. His brother, Lenny Rist passed away in Slidell on June 30 of this year.
Although we haven’t seen him as often as we’d liked recently, he will be missed and will be forever in our hearts. Steve will be buried with military honors at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11 a.m.

 

BARBARA CRESAP STARLING

Barbara Cresap Starling, a longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on July 16, 2023, at the age of 83. She was a native of Canton, Mississippi, born on December 30, 1939.
Barbara leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sheryl Merritt Starling, LCSW; her grandson and love of her life, Holden Christian Merritt; three sisters, Nina Cresap, Eileen Lewis, and Louise Geubelle; her German shepherd and loyal companion, Tundra; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, all of whom she loved greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Starling who was a captain for Delta Airlines; her son, Kenneth Ord Starling, DDS; and her parents, John Ord Cresap and Lillie Belle Cresap.
Barbara was a talented musician and a lead singer in dance bands beginning at the age of 7. After high school graduation, she was offered a band scholarship to Mississippi State University. Although Barbara loved all genres of music, her favorites were opera and classical. She was also a gifted poet and had an eye for antiques. She was the owner of Barbara’s Victorian Closet in Slidell. Barbara was an avid Saints fan and loved watching them play on Sundays with her son, Ken.

Floyd C. Riddle, age 91, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023.
A longtime resident of Slidell, he was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and served his country for 20 years, achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant.
He worked for the city of New Orleans for 20 years as a French Market supervisor and enjoyed all things electronic during his spare time.

Ora Mae Anna Hattier Guerrera, age 91, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, she was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Luke in Slidell and Infant Jesus of Prague in Harvey.

Sharon Elizabeth Constance, age 80, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
Born in Kingley, MI, she lived in New Orleans and Marrero before moving to Slidell.
She had a deep love for animals and worked with the Army Corps of Engineers, then later in administration at Pope John Paul High School and Hannan High. She also worked as secretary at St. Francis Cabrini.
She was also a hospice volunteer at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

Montie D’Angelo, age 70, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, she spent most of her life as a homemaker.

Heath Jacob Armbruster, age 45, of Pearl River, LA, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
Born in New Orleans, he earned an Industrial Engineering degree from Nunez College and worked at Textron and Land Systems.
He enjoyed cooking on the family farm and had a love for horses working with the Honey Island Clydesdales. He was also a fitness enthusiast who loved the Saints, as well as George Strait music.

Dale Ann Sanderson, age 80, of Pearl River, LA, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, she was a dedicated homemaker who was a parishioner at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, as well as a previous parishioner at Our Lady of Prompt Succor.
She enjoyed crafts and gardening.
