Money doesn’t grow on trees.
That famous saying has been around forever, but if you watch the way national leaders in the United States use their positions of power to gain favor with voters, you wonder if there really might be a magical money tree.
Our country was founded on the principles of working hard for whatever you want. The great thing in this country from the early years is that America offered the opportunity for any person to go for their dreams —all as long as they were willing to work for it.
Now, Washington bureaucrats continue to tear down the foundations of our country that made it great by coming up with more-and-more federal giveaway programs, essentially telling young people that there is no need to be responsible for yourself. Don’t worry, the federal government is going to take care of you.
While our federal entitlement programs have grown beyond belief, to the point of running up our national debt so much that you wonder how long we can maintain it, a real problem continues to be politicians who use taxpayer money to try and buy votes.
The latest is the huge student loan forgiveness program that President Biden already tried once, only to see the Supreme Court say that it was unlawful without the approval of Congress.
Never mind. Biden has a new federal handout with another way he is trying to get the favor of young people, and those who owe thousands of dollars for student loans. A new proposal from the president is again trying to get around Congress with his presidential order to again bail out those who owe money for student loans. Despite the fact this will cost tens of billions, to even hundreds of billions of dollars, Biden is trying a different approach, even knowing it will undoubtedly be challenged in court again.
Regardless of whether it is a Democrat or Republican, the power of the president to spend billions of dollars with no congressional accountability is wrong.
While most families probably like the idea that their children could have their student loans forgiven, it is still not fair to the thousands of college students who already did pay off their loans. And what about people who are blue collar workers, left without any kind of government handout just because they picked a different line of work?
No president should have the power to go around Congress. The Constitution set up a check and balance system that is there for a reason, yet it’s amazing to see how some national leaders simply ignore that and try to find ways on their own to essentially gain favor from voters. And that is completely the reason they do it.
Regardless of who the president is, that kind of action is wrong.
