SLIDELL — Will Boler drove in six runs for Slidell against Northshore on Saturday.
Although the game was tied 9-9 at the end of the fourth inning, Slidell ralled to win 13-9.
Northshore put up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie up the game 9-9, but Slidell got right back on the scoreboard at the top of the sixth to take the lead.?The Tigers never trailed again.
Slidell scored the go-ahead run when Devin Summers singled with one out. He then stole second base, landed on third after a throwing error by the catcher, and then scored after a throwing error by the centerfielder. This all happened on one play.
“Devin is our best base runner, and he’s a really heads up guy,”?Slidell head coach Clay Harris said.
The Tigers (11-12, 5-2) put up one run in the top of the first off starting Northshore pitcher Nico Cuccia who went 1.1 innings and allowed three earned runs. Jacob Manlove knocked in the run on a sac fly.
Northshore answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first off Ryan Rumpza when JP Lagreco launched a home run out of the park.
The second inning was not kind to Northshore as the Tigers put up six runs off three hits and three walks.
NHS tacked on one more run in the third, this time off a Blake Way home run.
With the score 7-2, Slidell scored twice more in the top of the fourth, but then NHS had its big inning by scoring seven runs. They would not score again, and with Slidell putting up four more total runs, the Panthers suffered the loss.
Northshore is now 12-12 overall and 2-5 in district play.
Devin Adams picked up the win off the mound after allowing three hits in one inning.
For Slidell, Manlove went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run; Kahlil Bijou finished 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs; and Andre Sigsworth drove in one run and scored one run.
Offensively for Northshore, Way finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs; Lagreco went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI; Alex Allen ended the game 1-for-3 with two RBIs; and Hunter Campbell went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
“We can’t make the mistakes we’ve been making. We had five errors today, and when we were tied up, we had two throwing errors that scored their runner for the lead,”?Northshore coach Vincent Ruda said.
Harris was pleased with how his team played.
“It took us a while to find our groove for this season, and now that we’ve found where we fit, it’s helped us a lot,”?Harris said.
