Pope John Paul teams finish in second

SLIDELL — Both the Pope John Paul girls and boys track and field teams showed up strong at this year’s District 8-2A meet at SSA.
The local teams earned an overall second place finish when all scores were totaled when the meet ended. In both the boys and girls divisions, Archbishop Hannan finished first. In the boys, the finish was extremely tight as Hannan outlasted 121 to 113. In the girls division, the differential was 174 to 96.
For the Jaguars, the following boys earned first place finishes at district:
Field:?Ben Grant in triple jump and Sean O’Brien in shot put.
Track:?John Grant, Sam Ybos, Mason Klotz – 4 x 200 meter relay, Ian Readeau in 110 hurdles
Mason Klotz in 400 meter dash
Ian Readeau in 300 meter hurdles
Ben Grant, Mason Klotz, Zach Corwin and Ian Readeau in 4 x 400 meter relay.
The PJP?girls first place finishes included:
Track:?Maddie Traylor in 100 meter dash
Maddie Traylor, Sydney Hemeter, Anna Stuteville and Christina Cutura in 4 x 100 meter relay
Maddie Traylor in 200 meter dash
The PJP track and field team will be well represented at the upcoming regional meet. The following Jaguar athletes earned the noted placement in the district meet and the opportunity to compete at the regional meet:

1,600 meter run: 3rd, Nick Tymkiw, 5:46.75
110 Hurdles:?1st, Ian Readeau, 18.40; 3rd, Justin Nunez, 18.68
800 meter run:?2nd, Zack Corwin, 2:28.37; 3rd, Nick Tymkiw, 2:30.43
4 x 100 meter relay: 3rd, Grant, Ybos, Delfres and Feraci, 47.80
400 meter dash: 1st, Mason Klotz, 54.46; 3rd, Ben Grant, 55.94
300 meter hurdles: 1st, Ian Readeau, 44.62; 2nd, Justin Nunez, 47.72
3200 meter run: 2nd, Trey Worthman, 13:00.70; 3rd, Mason Pearcy, 13:30.02
4 x 400 meter relay: 1st, Grant, Klotz, Corwin and Readeau, 3:51.12

Discuss Throw: 3rd, Whitney Lyons, 53-05

At the regional meet on Tuesday, four PJP track and field athletes qualified for the state meet. They are:
Track:
Ian Readeau for both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles
Sean O’Brien, shot put
Spencer Dean, javelin
Ben Grant, triple jump.

After the meet, Coach Daryl Thomas said, “I am pleased with the records set tonight, both personal and school times. We have b een really stressing for the athletes to focus on doing their best and to continue to improve. This is a young team and will only continue to improve.”
