RAYNE — After tying up the game 2-2, Rayne scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Pearl River 3-2 in the first round of the Class 4A baseball playoffs.
Not only did Rayne High’s Hunter Keely pitch a winning game Thursday as the Wolves captured a come-from-behind win over Pearl River in the bi-district round of the 2014 state baseball playoffs, but he also drove in the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the last inning for a 3-2 win.
The win advanced the No. 8-ranked Wolves to the regional round of the playoffs.
“We pulled out a close one,” stated Rayne Head Coach Jason Bonin. “We got guys on base, but just couldn’t advance them. I’m glad we came through when we did and just glad we walked away with the win.”
With runners on second and third, and the score knotted at two with two outs, Ty Delahoussaye scored the winning run on a Hunter Keely single for the win. Keely’s slow-moving hit to the left side of the infield gave runners enough time to advance while he was safe at first as the first baseman was pulled off the bag with a wide throw.
