BATON ROUGE – A Slidell man who was attending LSU in Baton Rouge was killed last Friday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver as he rode his scooter on Airline Highway at 1 a.m.
Eric Fabre was described as “one of the most selfless people I have ever had the privilege of coming in contact with.”
That statement was made by his general manager at Plucker’s restaurant on Nicholson Drive in Baton Rouge, where Fabre had worked for the past three years.
The manager of Plucker’s issued a statement after hearing of the news, saying “our staff is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss to our close friend Eric Fabre. To say that Eric was loved by many, would be a vast understatement. Eric was one of the most selfless people I have ever had the privilege of coming in contact with.”
Baton Rouge Police Cpl. Don Coppola reported they believed Fabre was hit by a maroon Chrysler 300 that fled the scene, according to witnesses who saw the accident.
On Monday, police said they had discovered a burned Chrysler 300 that was burned beyond recognition after being found on Erie Street in north Baton Rouge. However, on Tuesday afternoon, Public Information Officer Cpl. L’Jean McNeely said the BRPD was not postively identifying that vehicle as the one in the accident.
“The case is still under investigation and we are still asking for anyone with information to please call us,” he said.
Police are seeking information that would help them make an arrest in the case, and anyone with details about the accident can call CrimeStoppers at 225-344-7867.
The accident happened near the Hammond Aire Shopping Center on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.
