Numerous Roadrunners from Slidell qualify for national AAU track, field games

COVINGTON — The Southeast Louisiana Roadrunners AAU Track and Field team, which features athletes from Slidell, Covington, and Mandeville, qualified 60 athletes for the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games to be held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in July. The SELRR hosted the 2014 Area 11 Regional Championship at Covington High School this past weekend, the top eight finishers in the individual running events and the top five finishers in the field events qualified for the JO’s.
The local competitors are:
Layla Williams led the way for the 8-under girls with a first place finish in the 800 (3:03.78), and was second in the 400 (1:19.10) and 200 (34.48), Abigail Grantham (8-u) qualified fourth in the shot put (7-0), turbo javelin (13-0) and was ninth in the long jump (5-02). Kennedy Ard (9) was the long jump champion (10-04), placed fourth in the 200 (34.24) and was fifth in the 100 (16.28). Ivy Hunt (9) was a double winner in the 800 (3:04.70) and 1500 (6:32.98), while Reagan McVay (9) captured the turbo javelin title (31-05) and was second in the shot put (16-02.50).
Amiracle Collins (10) won the long jump (10-10.50), was second in the 100 (15.87) and placed third in the 200 (32.48). Presley Walls (10) won the 1500 (6:09.70), was third in the shot put (21-02) and placed fourth in the 800 (2:53.83). Randi Eubanks (10) was second in the triathlon (277 pts.) and long jump (8-06), was fourth in the turbo javelin (42-04) and was sixth in the shot put (15-01.50).
Breanna Becerra (11) captured the 1500 meters (5:45.32) , was second in the 800 (2:46.11) and fourth in the long jump (12-04.50), Ariel Pedigo (11) finished second in the pentathlon (1150 pts.), discus (51-07), 80 meter hurdles (19.18) and was third in the high jump (3-04).
Chalah Rock (12) was a triple winner in the 80 meter hurdles (16.50), pentathlon (1540 pts.) and high jump (4-02) and was second in the long jump (12-05.75), while Tianna Royal (12) was third in the 80 meter hurdles (19.35) and high jump (3-08) and also qualified fifth in the long jump (11-06).
Rachel Tabor (14) posted three first place finishes in the throws, she won the javelin (81-10), discus (98-11) and shot put (34-10). Madalynn Bouterie(14) was third in the high jump (3-08).
Meghan Becerra (15-16) was the 3000 meter champion (12:15.67) and was second in the 1500 (5:31.37), Destiny Williams (15-16) was second in the 800 (2:31.71) and qualified fifth in the 400 (1:03.47). Reilly Johnson (15-16) was the shot put champion (33-06.75) and was fifth in the discus (80-07), Gabrielle Chaix (15-16) won the javelin (91-03) and was third in the shot put (26-07). Haley Dean (15-16) won the Heptathlon (2217 pts.), qualified fourth in the 800 (2:43.38) and 1500 (5:41.59) and was fifth in the long jump (12-07.25). Ann Byerley (15-16) was third in the 3000 (12:51.75), sixth in the 1500 (5:55.48) and eighth in the 800 (2:47.79). Alexis Burris (15-16) finished eleventh in the 100 (15.60).
Nadia Hunt (17-18) captured the long jump title in (17-02.75), was third in the high jump (4-02) and fourth in the 100 (13.45). Chelsey Jones (17-18) won the 800 meters (2:21.32), while Brittney Washington (17-18) won the high jump (4-09) and was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.44). Sierra Dean (17-18) was third in the Heptathlon (1611 pts.), javelin (71-01) and 1500 (7:02.67) and was fourth in the high jump (4-02) and 800 (3:22.00), Samantha Zelden (17-18) was the javelin champion (125-02) and was fourth in the discus (99-05).
Marvalyn Vernon (17-18) was a double winner in the discus (116-11) and shot put (35-00.25), while Meredith Leveille (17-18) was second in the shot put (28-05.25), third in the discus (104-01) and fourth in the javelin (63-05). Crystal Rock (17-18) was third in the triple jump (33-07) and fourth in the long jump(16-04.50), Mary Duet (17-18) was tenth in the long jump (14-06.75) and twelfth in the triple jump (30-05.50).
Taylor Purvis (8-u) placed third in the 1500 (6:11.77) and was fifth in the 800 (3:04.35), Connor Franks (8-u) qualified at the fourth position in the 800 (3:03.17) and 1500 (6:12.39), while Aidan Franks (8-u) was fifth in the 1500 (6:42.62) and seventh in the 800 (3:12.21). James Royal (8-u) was second in the turbo javelin (39-07), seventh in the long jump (6-05.50) and eighth in the shot put (12-10).
Maguire Valure (9) had a pair of third place finishes in the shot put (19-06.50) and turbo javelin (49-0). Merritt Sweeney (10) qualified third in the 1500 (6:07.72), fifth in the turbo javelin (50-01) and was sixth in the 800 (2:58.59).
Konner Poche (11) was a double winner in the 80 meter hurdles (17.47) and high jump (4-02), was second in the Pentathlon (1153 pts.) and 800 (2:53.15). Kollin Poche (11) set a new Area 11 meet record in winning the 1500 meter racewalk (9:12.50), was second in the 3000 (12:13.96) and 1500 (5:24.98). Jacob Melton (11) was the discus winner (51-05), was third in the shot put (22-05.75) and sixth in the turbo javelin (34-10).
Dante Thomas (12) was a double winner in the high jump (4-06) and 80 meter hurdles (17.44) and was fourth in the long jump (13-01). Jonathan Neal (12) also posted a pair of wins in the shot put (32-05.50) and discus (86-09) and was second in the turbo javelin (51-07).
Trent Zelden (13) was second in the discus (77-0) and third in the javelin (87-10), Logan Lucas (14) was fourth in the 3000 (12:13.55) and was fifth in the 1500 (5:25.28).
Reginald Burris (14) was fifth in the long jump(12-08). Michael Delesdernier (14) had a pair of wins in the shot put (33-03.25) and javelin (107-0) and was second in the discus (102-10).
Nicholas Baudean (15-16) won the high jump (5-10) and triple jump (36-08.25) and was fourth in the long jump (17-08), Matthew Melancon (15-16) finished second in the javelin (117-0), Mason Valure (15-16) was third in the shot put (38-00.25) and discus (101-10) and Brett Leveille (15-16) was fourth in the javelin (80-11), fifth in the shot put (27-02.25) and sixth in the discus (67-05). Glen Ferrill (15-16) was fourth in the shot put (27-08.75), fifth in the discus (84-11) and seventh in the javelin (64-0).
Ledarrien Gardner (15-16) placed third in the 400 (54.74) and seventh in the 200 (25.37). Evan Vampran (15-16) placed fifth in the 1500 (5:19.41), sixth in the 800 (2:26.33), eighth in the 400 (59.13) and was twelfth in the 200 (26.52).
Craig Rock (17-18) posted a pair wins in the 110 meter hurdles (14.74) and 400 meter hurdles (56.20) and was fourth in the 100 (11.75), while Ivan Gray (17-18) won the 800 (2:05.11), was sixth in the 400 (53.82) and seventh in the 200 (24.64) and Matthew Graham (17-18) placed fourth in the 200 (23.83) and ninth in the 400 (53.35). Christopher Bivings (17-18) was third in the 110 meter hurdles (17.65) and was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.40). Claiborne Eubanks (17-18) won the Decathlon (4991 pts.), was second in the high jump (5-08), shot put (41-00.25), discus (121-03) and javelin (152-09).
Michael Seither (17-18) won the shot put (50-02.75), Thomas Peters (17-18) won the javelin (169-02), Edwin Pomykal (17-18) won the discus (138-05) and was fifth in the shot put (34-02.25), Garrett Melton (17-18) placed third in the shot put (36-02), was fifth in the discus (100-02) and Kyle Cleveland (17-18) was third in the javelin (126-05).
Roadrunner Ren Foster (15-16) competed in the Bluegrass State Games at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky this past weekend and won the triple jump (37-11) and placed second in the long jump (17-05).
