SLIDELL — You can blame it on global warming or you could blame it on the Bossanova but the Slidell Lady Tigers just blame it on having a bad night.
Slidell came into Fontainebleau’s Kennel and left with a stinging, 3-0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-16) loss against the Lady Bulldogs.
The Tigers, now 11-3 overall and 3-2 in District 4-I, ran into a hot Bulldog team this night.
“We’re coming together,” said Bulldogs coach Kacie Mule. “We have, at any given time, two freshmen and two sophomores on the court so it’s a work in progress.”
Rachel Tabor and Emily Campbell combined for 27 assists while Alexis Zulli slammed 14 kills. Tiffany Marlborough led the Bulldogs with 10 digs while Christine Kugelmann finished with nine kills as Fontainebleau led from the start and never looked back.
In the first set, with Slidell leading 6-5, the Bulldogs mounted an unbelievable 18-0 run with Tabor at the service line going on to a 25-7 win.
The next two sets saw Fontainebleau continue to dominate going on to win.
“We came in with confidence today,” Mule said. “The beginning of the season doesn’t dictate the team that we are. We played some very strong competition at the beginning of our season so hopefully we can improve from that.”
The victory over Slidell marks the second consecutive district win for Fontainebleau after the Bulldogs defeated Covington last week.
“We didn’t have an off night we just had a bad night,” said Tiger coach Michelle Anderson. “The girls were afraid to make mistakes and when that happens it’s not good. I told them it’s alright to make mistakes but you have to put them behind you and move on. Tomorrow’s another day. You just have to wake up and work hard. Hopefully, the next outcome will be different.”
Jaslyn Bright had six kills for the Tigers and Erica Bennett had five. Riley Herdliska had 22 assists and two aces while Kacie Livingston had 11 digs.
Next up for Slidell was cross-town rival Northshore while Fontainebleau met Destrehan for a non-district encounter.
