SLIDELL — With both teams looking for their first District 6-5A win, it was the Slidell Tigers came away with a 34-16 victory over the Hammond Tors.
With the loss, Hammond falls to 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
The Tigers are now 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the district.
Slidell dominated the run game rushing 50 times for a whopping 422 yards with Kain Mitchell accounting for almost half of it with his 14 carries for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
Kyron Smith also had a big night on the ground for the Tigers carrying 15 times for 180 yards and three touchdowns.
In the Tiger passing attack quarterback Wayne Griffin was 2-of-5 for 51 yards.
Mitchell caught one ball for 26 yards and Gabe Stapinski caught the other pass for 25 yards to give Slidell 473 total yards on the night.
Slidell kicker Evan Barbot was 4-of-5 in the point after category.
Hammond will host Mandeville next and Slidell will have the unenviable task of hosting the undefeated Ponchatoula Green Wave.
