SLIDELL — The clock struck twelve on the #8 seed Northshore Lady Panthers season as the #9 seed Chapelle Chipmunks took a 3-2 victory and with it a trip to the quarter finals where they will take on the #1 seed St. Joseph’s in the state volleyball playoffs.
The Chipmunks were down 2-0 to Northshore and it looked like a sweep was going to occur but the Chipmunks weren’t ready to concede and came away with a 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-13 win.
Ironically it was the second time in nine days that Chapelle had beaten Northshore at the Panther gym.
With the win, Chapelle (27-17) has the dubious honor of taking on the Division I top seed St. Joseph’s Academy, who advanced with a 25-4, 25-13, 25-7 win over #17 seed Zachary.
With the match tied at 2-2, Northshore (26-13) took control early moving out to a 9-6 lead.
Chapelle came right back to tie the match at 13-13.
Thanks to a couple of wicked serves, the Chipmunks took the next two points and the rest is history.
“I’m so proud of our team and the way they fought in this match,” Northshore coach Danny Davis said. “The girls that were on the court left everything out there. They played with so much heart and intensity.”
In the final match of her high school career, Northshore’s Haley Kirkpatrick had 28 kills and 28 digs.
Sabrina Buelle was the defensive leader with 33 digs while Carly Merry had 14 digs, seven kills and four aces.
Caitlin Epperson collected three blocks, Amanda Giardina had 11 kills and Annelise Vollenweider collected seven kills.
