GRETNA — The Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars opened up season play with a 2-1 record after participating in the Thomas Jefferson Tournament.
In their first game, the Lady Jags defeated St. Charles Catholic 47-41. The Lady Jags leading scorer was senior forward Allison Hartmann with 20 points and freshman guard Jessica Feraci with 10 points and 6 assists.
Hartmann is coming off a very successful volleyball season that saw the Lady Jags capture the Division IV state championship as well as earning the championship game’s Most Valuable Player award.
In the second match, the Lady Jags lost their first game of the season to Ben Franklin 61-45.
Freshman Jessica Feraci led the team in scoring 17 points and 5 assists while Hartmann eight points.
In the final game of the tournament, PJP defeated Thomas Jefferson 47-37.
Hartmann led all scorers with 29 points followed by Chloe Bryars with eight, Jessica Feraci with seven, and Farrah Flattmann with two.
“We are showing much improvement in all phases of the game and a better understanding of basketball,” Jag coach Daryl Thomas said.
“As a coach and mentor I am very proud of these young ladies and hope they continue to work hard and experience more success.”
PJP competed in the St. Scholastica tournament last week and will be back to regular season action on December 2 when they will host South Plaquemines.
