PEARL RIVER — The boys and girls from Pearl River hosted Kentwood last week in a non-district matchup that took place in the Rebel gym.
In the girl’s game, the Lady Rebels took care of the Kentwood’s Lady Roos handing them a 37-23 loss.
The Lady Rebels now stand at 4-6 on the season while Kentwood drops to 3-16.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Lady Rebs led from start to finish thanks to the efforts of the Mumphrey twins, Madison and Katelyn.
Katelyn led all scorers with 13 points and played a tenacious defensive game.
Her sister, Madison, had an equally fine game scoring 11 points while also making her presence known on the defensive end.
Erica Cryer led the Lady Roos with 12 points.
Both teams had trouble handling the ball. Pearl River committed 23 turnovers while Kentwood mishandled the ball 25 times.
Pearl River shot the ball at a 31 percent clip (15-of-48) while Kentwood could only manage a poor 22 percent from the field (9-of-41).
Lady Rebel coach Amanda Arcement was pleased with the win.
“We’ve been working hard in practice on getting offensive rebounds as well as limiting our opponents second chance shots and I think we are doing a much better job.”

The boy’s game didn’t turn out as well as Kentwood came away with a 63-54 win.
In a hard fought match that swung back and forth, the Kangaroos managed to hold on for the win.
Kentwood led at the half 27-21 but were challenged in the third quarter when the Rebels went on a 6-0 run to tie it at 27-27.
But a superb performance by Kentwood’s Darriyn McKnight in the final quarter proved to be the downfall for Pearl River.
McKnight, who led Kentwood with 17 points, drained 14 of those points in the last frame to pull away.
Kentwood had three other players in double figures which included Brandon Miller with 15, Bryce Chapell with 12 and Kevante Venible with 10.
Pearl River’s A.J. Taylor led all scorers with 21 points followed by Ladarius Wilford with nine.
The Rebels next game will be on Tuesday, January 6, when they host Eleanor McMain in a non-district encounter.
