MANDEVILLE – The Salmen Spartans spoiled the debut of Fontainebleau’s new head coach Mike Woods as both teams opened their respective 2015 baseball season.
Woods, who came to Fontainebleau by way of Abramson High School, replaces Mike Lavin.
The Spartans took an 8-0, non-district win fueled by a four-run third inning last Tuesday on a frosty night at Fontainebleau.
Salmen starter Drew Kennedy was in complete control after the first two innings where he gave up two hits and two talks.
After that, Kennedy pitched six shutout innings allowing four hits, two walks while striking out nine Bulldog batters.
Salmen’s Andrew Carlos and Mikey Passaro each collected two RBIs and Bryce Darby had two hits for the Spartans. Dylan Cross had four walks on four trips to the plate.
Brett Lewis, who was charged with the loss, gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks. Austin Lambertson struck out six in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Keith Hunter and Cody Marshall each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
