COVINGTON – It was a good day for Salmen’s Colby Dowden who had two hits in two at bats in the Spartans 3-1 victory over Varnado at Northlake Christian in the Mandeville/Covington Tournament.
With the game scoreless through three innings, Dowden pinch hit for Mike Passero and delivered an RBI double after Claude Hayes’s produced a one-run single.
Salmen (7-7) was able to hold on for the victory.
The first two innings saw only one hit for each team. Varnado threatened when Ja’Kyle Newkirk drew a walk and Lashon Whitson followed with a base hit with two outs. D.J. Jefferson grounded out to end the inning.
