SLIDELL – The Mandeville Lady Skippers faced off against the Slidell Tigers last week and left town with a 6-5 loss in a crucial District 6-5A softball action.
The Skippers got it going in the first inning when Amberlyn Alfaro led off with a triple and scored on a Tiger error to take a 1-0 lead.
It didn’t take long for Slidell to answer.
Qimmah Burdine singled to set the stage for Angel Nicolas who blasted a two-run homerun to take a 2-1 lead.
Mandeville regained the lead in their half of the second inning scoring three runs on hits by Alfaro and Rebecca Dragg.
Slidell got three runs of its own in the third as Gaby Aquila led off with a single followed by another single by Burdine. A Sarah Higgins double plated two runs followed by another double by Aaliyah Burdines driving in Higgins to regain the lead at 5-4.
Mandeville tied it up in the fourth, but Slidell scored the final and winning run in their half of the frame when Tiger starting pitcher Emily Higgins reached on a Skipper error and was driven in on a Qimmah Burdine single, her third hit of the day.
Higgins took the win for Slidell giving up eight hits, five runs, five walks and one strike out.
