SLIDELL – A Slidell woman was arrested after stealing an expensive puppy from Double M Feed Store, according to Slidell Police Capt. Nicky Mistretta.
Stephanie Orso, 29 years old of 1533 Richmond Drive in Slidell, was arrested for theft of goods over $500.
Last Monday, Slidell Police were dispatched to the store on 1121 Gause Blvd. where it was discovered that an eight-week-old Toy Poodle was stolen. It was learned that the perpetrator entered the store showing interest in the pets and other merchandise for sale. The store employee, who was assisting the subject, became momentarily distracted with another customer, giving Orso the opportunity to snatch the puppy from its kennel. Orso concealed the puppy, and exited the business in her vehicle.
Orso was arrested the following day following a traffic stop initiated by Sergeant Cliff Laigast for an unrelated traffic offense. Not aware of the theft incident and the fact that Orso was the suspect of the theft incident from the day prior, Laigast released Orso from the traffic stop.
Moments later, Laigast was made aware of the theft incident involving of a Toy Poodle, and as a result of the traffic stop, Orso’s home address was obtained. Officers immediately responded to the aforementioned address and made contact with Orso. After a brief interview, Orso admitted to the theft of the puppy and the puppy was safely recovered.
The puppy was recovered from a closet inside of Orso’s residence where she attempted to hide it.
Orso was transported to the Slidell Police Department’s Jail to be processed accordingly.
