SLIDELL – The Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars finished their regular season with a 12-4 loss to the Albany Lady Hornets at the Jag diamond last Wednesday.
Albany was just too strong for the young Lady Jags scoring two runs on the second, four in the third, two more in the fourth and four in the sixth for a 12-0 lead.
But the fighting spirit of PJP shined through as the Lady Jags scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
With one out, Olivia Johnson had a bunt single followed by a booming, two-run homerun by Chloe Cooper that was followed by a Leanne Lain single.
With two outs, Alyssa Randolph singled and Avery Natal followed with an RBI single to score Lain.
Maddie Clem then drove in Randolph with a single but Natel was thrown out at home trying to score to end the inning and the scoring at 12-4.
Randolph took the loss for the Lady Jags giving up eight runs on 10 hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Annalea Giamalva got the win going six innings giving up three runs on five hits and five strikeouts.
Shelby Neyland had two hits for PJP; Natel two hits and an RBI; for Johnson with one hit; Cooper with one hit (homerun) and two RBI’s; Lain and Randolph hits and Clem with an RBI.
Albany moves to 20-8 overall and 3-0 in District 7-3A while PJP ends their regular season at 10-12 overall and 4-2 in District 10-2A.
