LOUIS ‘LOU DUTEL

1. Why do you believe you are the best person for this position?
I am confident in my business skills, and leadership abilities to represent my area as an elected servant of the people. Most importantly I feel “called to serve after the loss of my son to fentanyl poisoning.” Other candidates see things as Republican problems or Democratic problems, whereas I see these as OUR community problems.

2. Do you plan any state action to address the library controversy involving sexually explicit books?
No. First parents are still in charge of deciding what their children should be exposed to and can read while they are minors in this country, while secondly, I trust in our librarians to supervise, and represent their libraries as to their respective community standards and expectations. I Do Not favor books on hate, killing or terrorism to anyone.

3. Are you in favor of a restricted section for sexually explicit books (described in Act 436) at the public library (meaning a need for parental approval to view, not just putting books in the adult section that is still accessible)?
No, other than images depicting anatomy and physiology of the human body for scientific educational purposes. I believe sexual materials do not have a place in the library as this is more or less adult entertainment and not educational.

4. What will be your top priority in Baton Rouge?
Insurance Reform will be my first priority. However the insurance crisis has been unfolding for many years now and the current elected commissioner has been inept at solving the problem. I will be a servant leader who is motivated internally to help my fellow citizens because I am simply sick and tired of this climate we have created.

5. Your second top priority?
Fentanyl poisoning and the opiate crisis. If you want to know how our enemies will overcome the US look at fentanyl. China is assisting Mexican drug cartels in producing deadly pills to look like medication, killing thousands of innocent citizens. The pressed pills look authentic and many even look like candy.

6. What can you do to reduce skyrocketing homeowner and flood insurance rates?
More insurance companies to enter into Louisiana, without using taxpayer money as incentives. Louisiana can attract large A rated companies by improving standards we require of insurance companies and insureds. We must implement new techniques to track which homes receive new roofs, or other hurricane proof building standards so as not to rely on the agent or the insured to report this data.

7. Bio Info:
I am 59, from New Orleans and a parish resident for 25 years, residing in Bush. Married to Danie Jenkins Dutel and I have two adult sons. I am a successful businessman having owned auto title and real estate title companies, and insurance agencies here and in New Orleans. I graduated from De La Salle High School in 1982 and I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in 1993. I worked in restaurants in the French Quarter while attending college.
