SLIDELL — After leading his team to a state championship this year, Pope John Paul J.B.?Mahoney has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Regional Coach of the Year.
He is now in the running for the NSCAA Girl’s High School National Coach of the Year, which will be announced at the 2015 NSCAA National Convention in Philadelphia, Penn. in January.
“This is a huge honor for J.B. and his school,” Doug Kidd, soccer coach at Swansboro High School, said.
Mahoney was stunned that he won the award.
“I?really can’t believe it. I’m still pinching myself,” Mahoney said.
Mahoney guided the Jaguars to a 22-1-1 record including the top-seed in the Division III state playoffs. Pope John Paul defeated No. 2 Newman 2-1 in the state championship to avenge the Jaguars only regular season loss.
Official recognition will take place at the NSCAA High School Awards Brunch on Saturday, August 2 at the Lake Buena Vista Palace Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
