The Southeast Showcase Series (SESS) is a newly formed baseball tournament to promote and expose perspective high school players to colleges and universities in the Southeast USA. All teams are either classified as Junior or Senior Division teams where the college recruiters can identify the graduating class of players. Teams participating in the SESS play the majority of their games on college fields.
The SESS featured games at both Tulane University’s Turchin Stadium and Northshore High School. In the Junior Division, the Hammond Yankees and the Northshore Prospects emerged out of their brackets as winners and the championship game was at Tulane’s Turchin Stadium. The Northshore Prospects roster is comprised of players from Slidell High, Pope John Paul and Northshore High.
The Hammond Yankees hung on for the win 3-2 as Northshore scored in the late innings, but could not overcome the three errors or the two-run fourth inning scoring by Hammond.
Hammond added another run in the fifth inning, but Northshore could only manage two runs in the bottom of the same inning.
In order to qualify for the championship game, Northshore had to defeat No. 1 New Iberia-based El Sueno. In that game, played at Northshore High School, the Prospects took advantage of several early errors and pitching woes by El Sueno and held off a late comeback to take the game 8-3.
