SLIDELL — There was a gunfight in town Monday as two of the District 4-I’s unbeatens squared off.
When the smoke cleared it was the Mandeville Lady Skippers who came out on top taking down the Slidell Lady Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-18) in the Slidell gym.
Going into the game, Slidell was ranked third in the state so it is a no brainer that the Lady Skippers will move up in the rankings.
And it doesn’t get any easier as the Skippers (9-6, 4-0) will host the Northshore Lady Panthers Wednesday who are currently on a 13-game win streak and ranked ninth in the state.
The game lived up to its’ hype as both teams fought to dominate as the match had 17 lead changes.
Riley Herdliska led the Slidell offense with 14 assists while Morgan Authement had four kills and Erica Bennet had five.
Mandeville’s well balanced attack proved to be too much for Slidell.
Marrisa Lecompte and Sarah Renaudo picked up five kills for the Skippers while Kailynn Haley had four, Sam Gomez with seven and Emily Boylan with nine on the offense.
Boylan was a double threat blocking seven shots while Reagan Rogers had 10 digs and Ali LeBlanc contributed nine. Sarah Rinaudo and Brandi Bundy combined for 24 assists.
“When we run the middle, we do a good job of hitting on the outside too,” said Mandeville coach Jody Walker. “It’s got to go through the middle to the outside. If we can continue to do that, we can continue get better as a team.”
