SLIDELL — Salmen’s Lady Spartans came up big in a District 5-II match against Riverdale last week in the Spartan gym
Salmen swept the Lady Rebels 3-1 (25-11, 24-26, 25-19, 25-9) and move to 6-13 overall and 3-1 in District 5-II play.
Riverdale falls to 10-7 on the season and 0-4 in district action.
The Lady Spartans dominated in every set except the second when they came back from a seven-point deficit to tie it at 22-22. Salmen then took a two point lead but Riverdale tied it up at 24-24. But thanks to unforced errors by Salmen, the Rebels took the set 26-24.
But that was as close as the Rebels would get losing the next two sets to take the loss.
“I thought we played well,” Salmen coach Kyle Cahill said. “Kalani (Brown) used her brain more than her power today finding the open spots on her second hits instead of pressing on the third hit. We played ahead of them the whole match so she didn’t need to pummel them. We passed the ball well and Lyllian Mirelez did a good job setting the ball for us.”
Kalani Brown had 15 kllls, seven digs, four blocks and one ace. Breanna Freeman had five digs, one ace and two kills while Taylor Alonzo collected five digs, five aces and three kills. Jourdan Earhart had 11 digs and one ace and Marisa Brown had three digs and two kills. Mirelez led the offense with 12 assists and one ace.
